Your smile is often the first thing a person notices about you, so what can you do to protect such an important asset? General dentistry provides the first line of defense against oral health problems. The dentist is the primary care provider for patients of all ages and maintains the ability to prevent, diagnose and treat a variety of dental conditions. Whether you are coming in for a dental cleaning or gum disease treatment, your dentist provides general dentistry services to meet your growing needs.
What is General Dentistry?
According to the American Dental Association (ADA), it is important to visit your general dentist at least once every six months. In doing so, you can ensure proper oral health and functionality. Regular oral health check-ups are available to prevent the development of potential dental problems, such as gum disease.
Our families mean the world to us, so why not ensure their health is taken care of? In order to remain healthy and happy, it is important to take care of your oral health, too. To help your entire family maintain healthy, glowing smiles, it is important to visit your family dentist at least twice a year.
Here are some reasons why visiting your family dentist is important.
For Prevention
Prevention is key and your family dentist can do just that! At Batchelor Dental, we can pinpoint oral health care problems before they become serious problems. Rather than waiting to see if a condition worsens, why not treat it now?
Using dental X-Rays, we can see whether permanent teeth are coming in or if wisdom teeth need to be removed. These are conditions that you may not be able to figure out on your own unless pain occurs.
Have you ever found yourself looking in the mirror and wishing your smile was better looking? Don’t worry if you have, we’ve all been there before. To help you love your smile again, we offer cosmetic dentistry in Chicago and Crown Point.
What is Cosmetic Dentistry?
Cosmetic dentistry can be used to treat and improve a number of factors that impact your smile, including:
Repairing chips and cracks
Treating an injury
Improving a person’s overall appearance.
Regardless of the reason for wanting to transform your smile, our cosmetic dentist in Chicago and Crown Point is available to help you look younger and healthier, and that begins with your teeth.
Are you looking for a way to create a brighter, whiter, and straighter smile? We’ve got the solution for you! Porcelain dental veneers continue to gain popularity due to their ability to create perfectly aligned teeth with translucent qualities of natural teeth using ceramic and porcelain materials. With porcelain veneers, you can smile with confidence once again. Let’s take a closer look at porcelain dental veneers.
What are Porcelain Dental Veneers?
Porcelain veneers are custom-designed shells that are applied to the surface of your teeth. You can utilize veneers to cover worn enamel and uneven tooth alignment or spacing.
You might have tried “whitening toothpaste”, but those have been found to be only somewhat effective in removing stains. You might notice only minor changes in brightness of your teeth, but it’s never enough to get you smiling more than before.
Professional teeth whitening is the most effective and safest method available for improving the brightness of your teeth. If performed properly, teeth whitening can last as long as five years. That’s five years of more smiles and laughs! Over-the-counter teeth whitening systems can also be somewhat effective if monitored by a dentist.
If you’re ready to take the next step toward whiter teeth, let us help you find the best treatment option. Contact our office about teeth whitening in Chicago and Crown Point today!
Dental emergencies can catch you off-guard, but they should never be ignored. Ignoring a dental emergency might increase the risk of permanent damage or the need for expensive treatments. The golden rule is to see the dentist within thirty minutes or less to save on your tooth or prevent other complications.
Today there are more than 100 million individuals missing at least one tooth. With so many people missing teeth, what solutions are available that will match the appearance and functionality of your natural teeth? Dental implants!
With the availability of dental implants, our dentist can provide further comfort and stability. Dental implants can help to restore your smile back to looking and functioning naturally. It’s so good that no one will even know you were missing a tooth; all that is left is your glowing smile.
Are you searching for straighter teeth? If so, dental braces are the answer you are looking for. While dental braces are often associated with teenagers, there are also many options available for adults as well. No matter which age group you are in, there is an orthodontic treatment available with braces in Chicago and Crown Point.
Dental Braces in Chicago and Crown Point
Without orthodontic treatment with braces, jaw growth and alignment can be affected. This can cause an overall decline in oral health. Braces can be used as early as age six, when a child’s jaw is still developing and malocclusion is in its earliest stage. Malocclusion is simply an abnormal alignment of the upper and lower teeth. To determine the best type of braces your dentist will assess the malocclusion issues in relation to spacing and jaw alignment.
The dreaded root canal therapy. Most people dread hearing the news that they need a root canal. While root canal therapy is a common dental procedure to eliminate infections in the teeth, it continues to place a negative image in patients’ minds. However, patients can rest easy knowing our dentist offers the most comfortable, efficient experience possible when root canal therapy is needed.
What is Root Canal Therapy?
Root canal therapy is a procedure where a dentist removes bad bacteria from the pulp of a tooth. That bacteria forms inside of the tooth for many reasons. Poor dental health is one of the most common causes. Also, when someone does not fix a cracked tooth, it is easier for bad bacteria to enter and attack the tooth from the inside out. An untreated infection inside of a tooth makes it painful, discolored and could eventually lead to the loss of that tooth.
A dental extraction involves removing a tooth from its place in the jaw bone. Extractions are done in dental offices by either the dentist or a dental surgeon and are usually performed under local or general anesthesia. A dental extraction is recommended when tooth decay is severe and nothing can be done to save the tooth, or when the tooth is infected or vulnerable to infection.
Types of Tooth Extractions
There are two primary types of tooth extractions, simple and surgical. During a simple extraction, the dentist will use forceps to remove the tooth completely. In more complicated cases the tooth may be removed in pieces for your comfort. A simple extraction is performed under local anesthesia. Surgical extractions are performed by the dental surgeon in cases where a simple extraction is not possible. Surgical extractions are generally performed under general anesthesia.
We need our teeth to eat properly, so when one is damaged it can take a toll on your day-to-day life. In order to continue to protect your teeth and overall well-being, it is important to repair damaged teeth. At our office, dental crowns are utilized to perform the following:
Cover dental implants
Prevent a cracked tooth from becoming worse
Restore an existing filling in jeopardy of becoming loose or dislocated
Looking for an improved appearance for your smile? When applied to discolored or stained teeth needing restoration, dental crowns provide the appearance of natural teeth.
Dental Bridges are natural-looking appliances that can fill in the gap caused by missing teeth. Simply put, bridges are natural-looking, custom-made, and barely noticeable teeth replacements. By utilizing dental bridges in Chicago and Crown Point, we can not only restore your smile by replacing missing teeth, but we will also be providing a more natural appearance and an improved proper bite relationship between your upper and lower teeth.
Proper care of your dental bridges will allow your new dental restoration to last for 10 years or longer. This means brushing and flossing daily like you would with your natural teeth. In addition to daily care, it is important to maintain regular visits to Dr. Batchelor for proper care and cleanings.
Partial or full tooth loss can affect your self-confidence if not treated. It can also increase your risk of developing other systemic health and nutritional problems. Luckily, dentures can bring back your smile and make chewing and eating a normal process again.
Dentures are removable and replace your natural teeth. Dentures are designed to look like natural teeth and are carefully crafted to match your smile’s appearance.
