Bios

  • Dr. Berit Spieker

    DVM

Dr. Spieker was born and raised in a lovely city in northern Germany and then moved to the United States with her husband Wolfgang. Prior to veterinary school she gained practical experience as a Veterinary Assistant in several branches of veterinary medicine including general small animal practice, small animal emergency, equine and holistic veterinary medicine, and exotic animal veterinary practice. Dr. Spieker completed her veterinary degree at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, temporarily leaving her immensely understanding husband behind to pursue her lifelong dream of becoming a veterinarian. Dr. Spieker currently enjoys working as a general small animal practitioner at VCA Misener-Holley Animal Hospital and she is a member of several veterinary medical associations including the American, the Illinois State and the Chicago Veterinary Medical Association. In her "spare time", Dr. Spieker enjoys horseback riding, spending time with her cat and cockatoo, and volunteers at shelters and another animal hospital. Wolfgang and her also spend time traveling, sailing, and biking.

  • Dr. Katie Baldwin

    DVM

Dr. Baldwin is originally from Chicago and is excited to be back practicing in the Roger's Park neighborhood. She received her DVM in 1998 from the University of Illinois and completed her internship at a private specialty practice in Rochester, New York. Dr. Baldwin accepted a position back in Chicago and practiced for six years before meeting her future husband while on vacation in Thailand. They moved to London, where she worked as a Relief Veterinarian for 3 1/2 years. This experience was invaluable since it gave her an opportunity to practice in different areas of the city and meet a whole array of animals. Dr. Baldwin has a strong interest in dermatology and preventative care. Her compassion, knowledge and experience is a tremendous asset to VCA Misener-Holley Animal Hospital. Dr. Baldwin and her husband are happily settling in to their new home in Chicago with their cats "VanGogh" and "Wolfie". In her free time, Dr. Baldwin likes to read, travel and enjoy the outdoors.

  • Dr. Megan G. FitzGerald

    DVM

Dr. FitzGerald grew up in Edgewater and used to take her pets to Misener-Holley as a child. She was raised surrounded by a variety of pets from cats and dogs to iguanas, box turtles, Guinea pigs, hamsters and horses. As a teen and young adult she actively competed in equestrian events and gained experience working as a small animal veterinary assistant and volunteering at an equine hospital and a wildlife rehabilitation center. She received her DVM from Ross University in the Caribbean and completed her clinical year at Purdue University. After finishing a year long internship at a busy equine surgical referral center in Southern California, Dr. FitzGerald moved back home to Illinois and became an associate with a local small animal hospital, helping to spay and neuter strays for the humane society on weekends. Fulfilling a long held dream to practice in another country, Dr. FitzGerald spent several months working as a mixed animal practitioner in Melbourne, Australia. Upon returning to Illinois she joined VCA Misener-Holley and is excited to be practicing in her old neighborhood. Dr. FitzGerald enjoys reading, cooking, working out and volunteering at the humane society in her free time. Both her dog, Mango, and cat, Dublin, are enjoying their recent move to Chicago.
